Acas - Early conciliation

Disgruntled employees must lodge their disputes with the Acas Early Conciliation service if they are considering taking a claim against their employer to an employment tribunal.

All complainants must notify Acas before they can proceed to tribunal. Under the conciliation scheme, Acas will contact the parties within two working days to offer conciliation services. The parties have up to one month to resolve the dispute with the aid of the Acas conciliator.

Acas considers that three quarters of all complaints are resolved via the conciliation service without recourse to the employment tribunal. Acas figures also show that cases heard under Pre Claim Conciliation — the forerunner of the new Early Conciliation scheme — cost just £475 and one working day compared to £3,700 and an average of four days for an employment tribunal.

I have worked with Ortolan Legal since 2010 and used their services extensively. They have provided corporate and commercial legal advice and we have also drawn on their capability in the areas of employment law, dispute resolution and property law. What makes them so different is their ability consistently to deliver commercially focussed and high quality advice at a price point which simply cannot be matched by other law firms. They aim to strip out unnecessary overhead costs, concentrate on the quality of their core service and pass on these cost savings to their clients. It works.
